Heirloom quality solid Birdseye Maple tissue box cover handmade and handcrafted in my wood shop. This wood is imported from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

All woods used are sustainable renewable resource hardwoods.

WOOD SPECIFICS:
This item is made from solid Birdseye Maple. No plywood, veneers, or substitute woods are used unless specifically listed. The natural birdseye specs and figured blonde wood are typical of birdseye maple and add those little touches that veneers or staining can’t duplicate. This is a one-of-a-kind product as no two finished items will be exactly alike due to natural deviations in the wood used. The maple birdseye is light to moderate for as to not be too busy.

Birdseye maple is not readily available to me locally in Texas and is imported from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

MATERIALS:
This item is made from solid birdseye maple, Titebond III waterproof wood glue, and OSMO Polyx-Oil / Wax Blend. All listed materials are non-toxic and FDA approved as food safe.

CONSTRUCTION:
The maple is from non-dimensional rough lumber milled down to 1/4 inch thickness in my shop. All my wood is stored until the moisture count is less than 10% so that warping and/or cracking won’t occur over time (not for outdoor use). The box construction uses perfectly cut fingered box joints all the way around and will not come loose over time (see pictures). The top is glued long-grain to long-grain to ensure a superior, heirloom durable bond. The oil / wax finish is hand rubbed over two (2) days to ensure a beautiful silky smooth satin sheen.

FINISH:
The finish is a hand-rubbed ‘OSMO Polyx-Oil’ oil-wax blend that is considered one of the best on the market. This hand rubbed finish helps bring out the deep figure in specialty woods like birdseye and curly maple. This finish takes approximately 10 hours to dry between coats and there are typically 2 to 3 coats applied. The oil / wax blend is from renewable resources and is completely food safe when cured.

DESIGN:
This cover is bottomless and simply slides over the tissue box. It is heavy enough not to allow the box to slide around and will not lift when you attempt to pull a tissue out.
